 Hakim Ben Hammouda is currently
the Director of the
Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation Division in the WTO.
Prior to this assignment, he was
the Chief Economist and Director of the Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). He was also the Director of the Trade and Regional Integration Division (2003-2006) and the Director of ECA's Office in Central Africa (2001-2003). He holds a PhD in International Economics from the University of Grenoble, France. He also holds a HDR (Habilitation à Diriger la Recherche) from the same university. He taught international economics and development economics in several universities and published extensively books, reports, articles and chronicles.

 Hakim Ben Hammouda est actuellement
le Directeur de l'Institut de Formation et de la Division de la Coopération Technique à l'OMC. Avant d'occuper ses fonctions, il était l'Économiste en Chef et le Directeur de la Division du Commerce, Finance et Développement Économique de la Commission Économique des Nations Unies pour l'Afrique (CEA). Il a été aussi Directeur de la Division du commerce et de L'intégration régionale de la CEA (2003-2006) et Directeur du Bureau de la CEA en Afrique centrale (2001-2003). Il est titulaire d'un Doctorat en économie internationale de l'Université de Grenoble en France. Il est également titulaire d'un HDR (Habilitation à diriger la recherche) de la même université. Il a enseigné l'économie internationale et l'économie du développement dans plusieurs universités. Il a publié de nombreux livres, rapports, articles et des chroniques dans différents journaux.

 ECA economist receives eminent international trade research award
The Director of the Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division (TFED) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Mr. Hakim Ben Hammouda received the 2007 Alan Powell Award, one of the most prestigious in the area of global trade research. Mr. Ben Hammouda was presented the award at the occasion of the tenth Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis held from 7 to 9 June 2007 on the campus of the Purdue University (USA) under the auspices of the Center for Global Trade Analysis.

 AU appoints UN official as member of new "Panel of Eminent Africans"
Addis Ababa, 04 September 2007 - The current Chairman of the African Union (AU), His Excellency, President John Kufuor of Ghana, has appointed Mr. Hakim Ben Hammouda, the Director of the Trade, Finance and Economic Development Division (TFED) of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) as member of the Panel of Eminent Africans, which has been established to advise on how to improve the African Union.
